Hi there! So glad you stopped by my neck-of-the-internet-woods. Thank you! Here on Basil and Bourbon you’re going to find my little love of the culinary world and hopefully be inspired to create your own.
I grew up in the kitchen. Going to the grocery store was a game. Meals were experiences, even when I was young. Most of my favorite memories tie back to the kitchen somehow. I loved watching my mom, Kimberly, cook while Food Network was teaching in the background. I remember waiting to grow old enough so I could gain more culinary responsibilities. First I was allowed to stir sauces, then I could measure ingredients and finally CHOP! Each level I acheived was one that I relished.
This blog idea came from me wanting to share my love of food and cooking and hopefully inspire you to elevate your dishes. And of course, I couldn’t do it without the best food mentor there is, my Mom, who happens to have a culinary story of her own. (Click the link to learn her story) When she agreed to lend her advice, recipes and overall cooking wisdom- I knew Basil and Bourbon would be the best passion project .
What you’ll find here is:
- Recipes to elevate your everyday meals (they lean towards Italian because I secretly wish I was of that heritage)
- The basics of finding your way around the kitchen
- What to cook year-round to leverage the freshest ingredients
- Fun, inventive ideas to entertain your guests
Other than recipes, you’ll also catch a little glimpse of my everyday life. Bites and sights around town and when traveling, new things I’m obsessed with and my fur babies (Harvey: left; Raleigh: right) will appear frequently under the Nibbles section.
